Packers Roast Gilbert Brown at Charity Dinner
2004

Gilbert Brown can take it as well as he can dish it out. Packers teammates and fans gathered Sunday night to pay tribute to "The Gravedigger."

A roast was held honoring Gilbert with plenty of memories shared from his playing career, while benefiting My Brother's Keeper, a mentoring program for local men and boys.

For more information about My Brother's Keeper, visit their web site. General manager/head coach Mike Sherman released the Gravedigger in March while Brown still had three years left on his contract. Sherman said it was a very difficult decision for him.

Brown spent ten years in a Packers uniform and made an impact on many peoples' lives-- not just on his opponents. His teammates will never forget the first time they met him. Some who couldn't be at the dinner sent video messages, including Reggie White and Santana Dotson.

In the 2000 season, he was out of football. His last season with the green and gold might not have produced his best numbers, but he played through torn biceps that some doctors initially believed would be a career-ending injury.

Brown declined to comment at the dinner on his football future. Only he knows whether it's truly over.
