What do
you do after playing professional football for 10 years, coaching
for 6 years and winning 3 Super Bowl rings? Well, if you're Harry
Sydney, you walk away from it all to launch a non-profit mentoring
service to help others who are facing difficulties in life.
Harry founded My Brother's Keeper Inc. in November 2003, and
has since helped hundreds of individuals in the Brown County
area.
Although
Harry enjoyed a very successful career in the NFL, he has dealt
with a his share of disappointment and knows the meaning of
hard work. He came from a childhood filled with abuse, alcoholism,
divorce and an environment filled with prejudice. Having overcome
these obstacles, he has dedicated himself to helping others
find success in dealing with the hardships in their lives. He
personally mentors each individual, helping them gain the knowledge
and skills to make positive changes in their lives.
A lot of
people talk about making a difference, but what Harry is doing
is having a real impact on our community. By teaming with the
Green Bay Correctional Institution, the Brown County Juvenile
Detention Center and various school districts in the area, Harry
has been able to work directly with boys and men who have a
history of making "bad" decisions and have taught
them about respect, integrity, responsibility and goal setting.
He treats everyone that walks through the door with honesty
and respect. He is willing to talk about anything that will
help improve the quality of their lives, ranging from a teen
struggling to fit in, to helping a paroled convict make better
decisions and become a productive member of the community.
Harry's
dedication to the boys and men in the program goes above and
beyond the long hours at the office. He makes himself available
at all hours to anyone who is in need. Harry is here to help!!!
